Principles of Computer Music
This course was an introduction to the use of computers and electronic instruments in music production. We learned about MIDI, sequencers, and synthesizers. In class, we used Macintosh computers with a Alesis QS6.1 Keyboard at each station. I learned how to record MIDI using Digital Performer, as well as quantize the notes to sound more perfect or place the notes in a grid instead of playing them in real time. We also used Reason for samples and loops.

Digital Audio & Media
In Digital Audio & Media, I learned about the practices and tools used in digital audio production. This course focused on audio editing, midi implementation, analog to digital converters, delivery media, and file formats and format conversion. I also learned about the computer components and Word Clock. In this class, we used programs such as ProTools LE, Peak Pro, Reason, and Toast Titanium. Delivery topics include: CD audio, archival options and data reduction systems (lossless v. lossy).

Understanding Computer Technology
This class was the first time I used a Macintosh computer. Half of the semester, we focused on PC and Windows programs and functions, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point presentations. The other half of the semester, we focused on the Macintosh system including how to navigate it and use Mac applications such as iMovie. The majority of the class was spent on understanding communication technologies, including the internet, digital audio and video workstations, multimedia, graphic design, and administrative software. This class prepared us to use computers on a daily basis and understand the fundamental concepts and hardware used in these systems.
